Recently there was a news in the local daily "The Shillong Times", published from Shillong Meghalaya regarding issuing of trading license to the Non-Tribal. Since the inception of Meghalaya as an independent state in the year 1971 the the cold war between the Non-Tribal and Local Tribe begun. Sometimes the fight took a fierce shape during 1987-88 and till date the cold war is still going on ( however we pretend to be together). The recent rule or the law is not to allow trading license to the Non-Tribal. Before that let me define you who are the Non-Tribal:
A Non-tribal is a person who is not Khasi, Garo or Jaintia.
What about people residing since 40 to 50 years other than the Tribal people?
They are Non tribal and are not eligible to start any business activities, buy land or whatever.
We say that Delhi or Bangalore is not safe for the so called "chinkis", but they have not realized that being a person who is born and raised at those area live in fear and plans to leave the city and make home some other state.

This is mere base work to get totally disconnected from the main land India.
The poll conducted on issue of trading license to Non tribal went to a whopping 87% against it. That means Non-tribal are the one who is about to lose the identity over there. They are minorities but still they are not eligible for the scholarships in schools or colleges. When it comes of taking the help or the aid from the center locals people are minorities and tribal. But if we see the living standard of people over there, non-tribal are living in rags.
The reason for all this is WE DO NOT WANT CHANGE? We are very happy inside the well, the water is so clean and we feel secure.
I just want few comments on this, honestly. I want to know where is the hiccup or who is the hiccup.
Who are Non-Tribal?
1. Indians Residing in Meghalaya
2. Indians born and raised up in there
3. Indian coming from other states and setting business there ( NO CHANCE, no one comes cause not allowed)
4. Indians other than KJG ( Khasi, Jaintia and Garo )
Are Non-tribal a threat- regarding non-issue of trading license?
1. Increase Job opportunity
2. Increase exposure
3. Information shared and passed on
4. Identity building in other part of the country
Are Non-tribal a threat to the (tribal) KJG?
1. KJG will come out of their self defined WELL.
2. New IT parks and business will increase Job opportunity
3. Mindset and thinking power will be broad and enlightened
4. Some of these tribal will be in the most prestigious position in private sector..
Why some of the other cities are developing rapidly?
1. Equal opportunity to all
2. Increase of State Govt. revenue
3. Better way of living
4. Ambitious and creative generations.
Are we ready for all these or we are comfortable driving taxis everyday. Do we want change or we are scared of coming out of our secure and comfort zone? Do Government job suffice to all current and coming generations? When are we gonna open our damn mind? Is it just the political factor that is resisting Meghalaya from development or people are actually happy in the pond?
Why Non Tribal?
The most apt reason to take away all the minor right of the people so that only Tribal can run business, own land, buy or sell land, so that the non-tribal becomes only their customer or would be treated as the tourist.What about people residing since 40 to 50 years other than the Tribal people?

My question is why not open up?
Why not train starts flowing in?
Why not big Industry and IT firm comes in?
Why not people get job?
Why not the cities like Shillong, Imphal, Kohima etc becomes one like Bangalore, Pune or Mumbai?
Why people have to come out of their home land to work outside in other state?
The reason for all this is WE DO NOT WANT CHANGE? We are very happy inside the well, the water is so clean and we feel secure.
